Whisper users can alert their emergency contacts whenever the get into any kind of trouble.
Those emergency contacts will then be able to see the users position in real time on a map, check who else received the alert, who saw it, and easily communicate to organize a rapid response.
When an alert is triggered GPS will run even if the application is in the background. This can dramatically decrease battery life.
